After graduating college, I started my teaching career in Peoria and quickly gained about 50 pounds. I was lonely and depressed. I tried different gyms but nothing was sticking. After moving back to the Bloomington Normal area, I joined the YMCA and finally got into a rhythm. I lost a few pounds but I was still wanting more. My friend Ben invited me to a free yoga session at Be Strong and although it was nothing like I expected, I was pleasantly surprised at what I saw. There were no weight lifting machines, treadmills, or ellipticals in this gym! The people were so encouraging and welcoming. I wasn’t sure if I would fit in but I’m so glad I gave it a chance. I love the enthusiasm of the coaches and support of fellow members, especially at 5am.
Since joining Be Strong, I have gained confidence in my strength, and of course I’ve become significantly stronger! I have better awareness of my body and its needs, acceptance of my body and its journey, I have made connections to others in the community and created a morning routine that starts my day off right every weekday.
