I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember.  Even after I joined the Navy I always teetered on the edge of passing the weight standards.  I worked out every day, but ate whatever I wanted.  Then suddenly, I started quickly gaining weight out of nowhere.  I had gotten up to 230lbs.  I ran 5 to 6 miles every morning and tried several extreme diets.  No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get the weight off.

I was already very self-conscious about how I looked before the sudden weight gain and afterwards it became worse.  The way I looked and felt made me feel depressed, it even started to affect my life and personal relationships.  I just wanted to give up on working out and trying to eat right.

The breaking point for me was when I faced being separated from the military because of my weight.  That is when I decided to see my doctor. I was shocked to find out that I had a condition that made it very difficult to lose and keep off weight.  I was put on medication which started to help with weight loss.  Although I was on medication it was only part of what I needed to do. I saw this as a “challenge” which I could control.  I did research, saw a nutritionist and started running again.  Then I was told that running is only part of loosing weight and being healthy.  I started lifting weights in addition to the running and that is when the weight started coming off.

Weight lifting alone was good, but it still was not quite enough for me.  I wanted to learn how to properly lift weights and get stronger.  So, I joined Be Strong. With the help of a community of people, I am now stronger than I ever thought I would be.  I am still losing weight and gaining muscle. The amount of my medication has been significantly reduced, and I will soon be off of it completely.  My self confidence is so much better, I feel healthier and supported.

Thanks Be Strong!!!!!
